What Is Dry Air Purge?
Dry air purge systems are used in environmental test chambers to reduce the humidity index of the chamber interior at an expedited rate creating a dry atmosphere. The system injects a source of dry air into the workspace to create a less humid environment. Dry air purge systems are commonly used on temperature and humidity test chambers, but temperature-only chambers can also benefit from the systems because they control any residual moisture generated by temperature changes within the chamber.
HOW DO DRY AIR PURGE SYSTEMS WORK?
Dry air purge systems typically use either a heatless desiccant dryer or a customer-supplied dry air source. The system operates by injecting a source of dry air into the workspace. This injection creates a slight positive pressure inside the workspace, which results in existing moist air being forced out of the workspace through a vent port. Then ultra-dry compressed or inert gas is added to the air. The system performs excellently in areas with high humidity as it lowers the dew point. Compressed air and low dew points are key for the functionality of these highly effective systems in low temperatures.
Dry air purge systems include a flow meter, regulator, and control solenoid for program operation. The most commonly used inert gases are nitrogen and carbon IV oxide gases. Other usable inert gases include argon and helium. In addition, the dry atmosphere protects moisture-sensitive samples and optimizes low-humidity testing.
