Tenney Environmental Ships Custom Walk-In Altitude Chamber to the Aerospace and Defense Industry
Tenney Environmental, a division of Thermal Product Solutions, announced the shipment of a custom Walk-In Altitude Chamber to the aerospace and defense industry. The chamber will be used to simulate real-world atmospheric conditions to support customer product testing under extreme flight conditions.
The walk-in environmental test chamber has an operating temperature range of -86°C to +150°C and an altitude range from site level up to 150,000 feet, with adjustable transition rates. The interior dimensions are 8’ W x 8’ D x 8’ H, providing a total workspace of 512 cubic feet.
The unit is designed with a vertical airflow configuration that includes perforated ceiling and floor panels to deliver uniform airflow throughout the workspace, simulating flight ascent and descent conditions. To replicate real-world atmospheric environments, the chamber utilizes a combination of thermal fluid conditioning, direct expansion refrigeration, a liquid nitrogen system, and a vacuum system.
The temperature of the chamber is controlled by a Tenney Smart 1.2 touchscreen controller, featuring a 10-inch HMI. Smart 1.2 is a PLC-based controller designed in-house by Tenney, providing real-time and historical color graph displays for temperature and humidity, setpoint monitoring, and Ethernet and RS485 communication capabilities.
“This altitude testing walk-in room combines advanced airflow design, integrated multi-system refrigeration, and precise control to accurately simulate demanding atmospheric environments. Our team works closely with customers to deliver chambers that meet complex testing requirements while ensuring safety and reliability.”
– Justin Kashner, Applications Engineer / Vacuum Products Engineering Specialist
